‘Gotham’ Season 2 Looking to Cast A Pair Of New Villains

Gotham-Banner

[SPOILERS for Gotham season one ahead.] – Gotham‘s young Bruce Wayne may have years, even decades, to go before donning the iconic cape and cowl, but that hasn’t stopped the show from introducing most of the equally iconic rogues gallery, killing off an integral Bat-lore villain, and even opening the (potential) batcave – all in season one. While the series’ overall success has been loudly divisive and its campy-gritty tone consistently unsure, one thing is certain: Gotham is moving fast out of the gate. Or at least, its villains are. The question we have posed time and time again here remains the same: is it wise to provide fans with a batch of full-fledged Batman villains when the hero … Click to continue reading ‘Gotham’ Season 2 Looking to Cast A Pair Of New Villains Screen Rant » TV News

‘Game of Thrones': Faith & Cynicism

Kit-Harington-in-Game-of-Thrones-Season-5-Episode-7

[This is a review of Game of Thrones season 5, episode 7. There will be SPOILERS.] – Comeuppance is a rare delicacy in the world of Game of Thrones. The world that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have shepherded for a little over four and a half seasons hasn’t been one to encourage any sort of faith that the wicked will eventually be punished, or that justice will one day be meted out. No, instead it is a world where the just are met with undeserved fates and the rest are, well, forced to somehow settle for something less. And yet seeing Cersei tossed in a cell, on the command of a monster of … Click to continue reading ‘Game of Thrones': Faith & Cynicism Screen Rant » TV News

‘Game of Thrones': George R.R. Martin Explains Religious Inspiration for the Sparrows

Game-of-Thrones-Jonathan-Pryce-High-Sparrow

Game of Thrones readers and viewers with a decent knowledge of history can probably recognize a lot of parallels between the Seven Kingdoms and real-life historical events. The Wall, for example, was inspired by Hadrian’s Wall, a great defensive structure built during the Roman rule of Great Britain whose reported purpose was partly to defend the Romans from the native ‘barbarians.’ While George R.R. Martin’s fantasy book series draws on many aspects of history, the author has said that he was particularly influenced by the Wars of the Roses – a struggle for the throne of England that took place in the late medieval period. With the introduction of the Sparrows, a religious movement within the Faith of the … Click to continue reading ‘Game of Thrones': George R.R. ‘Twin Peaks’ Revival Season Length Increasing to 18 Episodes

Twin-Peaks-Dale-Cooper1

What a difference a few weeks can make in the high pressure world of Hollywood. Not too long ago, reports surfaced that Twin Peaks co-creator David Lynch had opted to leave Showtime’s upcoming revival of the legendarily quirky drama due to a financial dispute. This announcement understandably left Twin Peaks fans stunned, with many feeling that the project shouldn’t go forward without one of its primary creative minds at the helm. Showtime apparently agreed, as the network recently came to terms on a deal both it and Lynch were happy with. As if that wasn’t enough good news for one month, Twin Peaks star Sherilyn Fenn has now confirmed that the series’ third season has doubled in size, and … Click to continue reading ‘Twin Peaks’ Revival Season Length Increasing to 18 Episodes Screen Rant » TV News

‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ Cast Talks CW’s New Spinoff

The cat has finally been let out of the bag concerning The CW’s next DC Comics spinoff series, now that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has been officially announced with footage from the show captured under total secrecy. Bringing new DC superheroes and returning villains into the same time-hopping adventure, the network’s third entry in its shared superhero universe has fans curious, if not entirely convinced. Now comments and details from the show’s cast (offered before the show’s unveiling) have arrived in the latest instalment of DC All Access, more or less confirming a few of our own suspicions – while keeping severeal of the show’s secrets close to the vest for now. For a perfect example of the secrecy we’re referring to, look no further than Franz Drameh (Attack The Block), the last cast member to be officially announced. His casting as … Click … Continue reading

Rumor Patrol: Jaden Smith to Star in ‘Static Shock’

Jaden-Smith-to-Play-Static-Shock

Warner Bros. has a lot of DC Comics-based TV and movie projects in development right now, but one that has gone fairly quiet since being announced last year is Static Shock, a digital webseries featuring teenage superhero Virgil Hawkins (a.k.a Static), whose powers are based around electromagnetism. Static was the star of Warner Bros. Animation series Static Shock, which ran for several seasons starting in 2000, and the studio announced the live-action series last fall. Static Shock is set to be written, produced and directed by Reginald Hudlin (Django Unchained), and shortly after it was first announced there were rumors that Jaden Smith (After Earth) was being considered for the lead role. This would make him … Click to continue reading Rumor Patrol: Jaden Smith to Star in ‘Static Shock’ Screen Rant » TV News

‘Game of Thones’ Season 5 Episode 7: Book to Screen Spoiler Discussion

Gilly-and-Sam-in-Game-of-Thrones-Season-5-The-Gift

After a controversial episode last week, Game of Thrones continues pushing forward. With only three episodes remaining, “The Gift” makes some serious progress in a few of its storylines, yet others are left meandering. Of those aimless narratives, Jaime and Bronn’s adventure in Dorne is the worst offender. After finally bringing all its players together, whatever progress could have been made was squandered this week by an awkward family reunion between Jaime and his daughter-niece, and a pointless threat on Bronn’s life that’s carelessly dispelled within a single scene. For all the excitement that surrounded the narrative switch-up of having Jaime travel to Dorne instead of the Riverlands, … Click to continue reading ‘Game of Thones’ Season 5 Episode 7: Book to Screen Spoiler Discussion Screen Rant » TV News

‘Penny Dreadful': Horror In All Its Horrors

Eva-Green-in-Penny-Dreadful-Season-2-Episode-4

[This is a review of Penny Dreadful season 2, episode 4. There will be SPOILERS.] – Even though Penny Dreadful has only existed for all of 12 episodes now, the series has developed a certain rhythm that, once it gets going, is easy for the audience to fall into. That rhythm can be a little staccato at times, drifting off into fog-encased memories of weeks spent in Patti LuPone’s quaint two-story cottage on the outskirts of some prime English cattle country, before suddenly lurching forward, like a naked Nightcomer camouflaging herself as 19th century designer wallpaper. And while that may not be a particularly smooth cadence, it’s one that John Logan, series creator and … Click to continue reading ‘Penny Dreadful': Horror In All Its Horrors Screen Rant » TV News

‘Orphan Black': There’s Something in the Blood

Orphan-Black-Certain-Agony-01

[This is a review of Orphan Black season 3, episode 6. There may be SPOILERS.] – Many strange things have happened during the winding road of Orphan Black‘s science fiction-infused plot, but by far the most bizarre sight so far is Alison and Donnie Hendrix celebrating their newfound success as drug dealers in a display of dancing, spanking and twerking. It really makes you wonder what’s going on behind the curtains of all the millions of quiet suburban homes out there. Surprisingly, this scene is not one of the many dream sequences featured in ‘Certain Agony of the Battlefield,’ as Sarah is given a dose of Castor blood and receives a series of suspicious invitations to venture down dark tunnels with lights at … Click to continue reading ‘Orphan Black': There’s Something in the Blood Screen Rant » TV News

‘Fuller House': Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Officially Not Returning

P4DOLTW EC001

In the two years since our own April Fools Joke featured a reboot of the classic ‘90s family sitcom Full House, a revival series was rumored then officially given the green light by Netflix. With many of the original stars confirmed to return for Fuller House either in starring roles or guest appearances, the last holdout of the main cast was Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who shared the part of the youngest Tanner daughter, Michelle. In an interview after Fuller House was ordered to series at Netflix, the twins claimed they hadn’t heard about the revival, though costar John Stamos was quick to say that wasn’t true. Now, although … Click to continue reading ‘Fuller House': Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Officially Not Returning Screen Rant » TV News
