‘Myst’ TV Series from Legendary Heading to Hulu

Video games are hotter than ever these days. But their steady surge in popularity hasn’t had as much of an impact on the entertainment industry as many had hoped. While there are currently at least 10 video game movies in various stages of development, it’s still tough to get even one of those all the way to the big screen. Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed are the obvious frontrunners right now, with release dates already scheduled for next year. And the road to production seems to be even more difficult for video game TV series. There were rumors earlier this year that a live-action Legend of Zelda series was coming to Netflix, but Nintendo recently put the kibosh on … Click to continue reading ‘Myst’ TV Series from Legendary Heading to Hulu Screen Rant » TV News

‘iZombie': Radio Killed the Radio Star

[This is a review of iZombie season 1, episode 8. There will be SPOILERS.] – “Dead Air” is an example of what iZombie can be when it’s on top form. The murder of the week is interesting and manages to have a few surprising twists, the show’s supporting characters get a bit more flesh on their bones (writing-wise), and the whole thing is topped off with a one-two punch of great cliffhangers. To the murder mystery first: Liv starts tuning in to the sultry tones of relationship and sex expert Sasha Arconi, only for the charismatic radio host to get killed on air thanks to someone plugging her microphone into the station’s backup generator. The immediate suspect is a mystery caller who goes by the … Click to continue reading ‘iZombie': Radio Killed the Radio Star Screen Rant » TV News

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: ‘Scars’ – Spoilers Discussion

NOTE: The following post contains SPOILERS for Avengers: Age of Ultron and Agents of SHIELD. In last week’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC, titled “The Dirty Half Dozen“, Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) surrendered himself to Robert Gonzales (Edward James Olmos) and his faction of S.H.I.E.L.D., later revealing that he’s been in contact with Maria Hill and Nick Fury during all of this time and that this is why he’s the rightful Director of the secretive organization. Coulson convinces the S.H.I.E.L.D. council to authorize a covert mission that involves the original six cast members reuniting, including the villainous Grant Ward, assaulting a key Hydra base. It’s here where he discovers the location of Loki’s Scepter (from The Avengers) and of current Hydra leader Baron von Strucker. Coulson relays this info to Hill and they get ready to call in the … Click to continue … Continue reading

‘The Strain’ Season 2 Trailer: Infect the Infected

As The Strain‘s very first trailer warned, “the end of our world is the beginning of theirs.” What followed last summer was a gory, thrilling, and fun ticking-clock crusade from horror guru Guillermo Del Toro that eventually ended in the protagonists’ failure to prevent this beginning – which was, ironically, where the series succeeded. Now, as established by a new season 2 trailer released by FX, the unique pre-apocalyptic premise is quickly moving into usual post-apocalyptic territory, a la The Walking Dead. With parasitic neo-vamps running rampant throughout New York, our heroes must “fight or die” in their quest to prevent the virus from spreading even further. Check out the new poster below (via Entertainment … Click to continue reading Screen Rant » TV News

‘RoboCop’ Web Series Being Developed by Machinima

Last year’s RoboCop reboot was met with mixed reaction by fans of the 1987 sci-fi action film that first launched the franchise (read our review). Some felt that the new release smartly updated the central themes of the original film, while others countered that it lacked the satirical edge and therefore missed the point entirely. Regardless, director José Padilha’s film – starring Joel Kinnaman as the title character – earned $ 242 million worldwide against a $ 100 million production budget. That’s a solid figure that relied largely on overseas grosses to turn a profit, which might explain why talk of a potential sequel has stalled. Now, however, fans of the cybernetic cop have an entirely new interpretation to look forward to. Machinima – the media streaming website and multi-channel – has announced its … Click to continue reading ‘RoboCop’ Web Series Being Developed by Machinima Screen … Continue reading

‘Mad Men': Ground Control to Major Don

[This is a review of Mad Men season 7, episode 12. There will be SPOILERS.] – There may be no more indelible image during ‘Lost Horizon’ than that of Peggy walking through the halls of McCann Erickson, triumphantly hungover, a cigarette dangling from the same lips forming a sly grin, as the rest of her face is concealed behind a pair of sunglasses. She’s carrying the painting from Cooper’s office – the one she previously expressed concern would upset the men at McCann – along with the rest of her belongings. This is how Peggy Olson announces herself. It is a fantastic sequence about how the characters choose (or don’t choose) to navigate … Click to continue reading ‘Mad Men': Ground Control to Major Don Screen Rant » TV News

David Fincher’s ‘Video Synchronicity’ Series Picked Up by HBO

Following the commercial and critical success of Gone Girl, it wouldn’t be at all surprising for David Fincher to seek out another time-consuming film to direct. However, as one of the driving forces behind Netflix’s House of Cards, and with two upcoming HBO series – Utopia and Shakedown – the two-time Oscar nominee certainly seems to have put his directorial skills on the creative back burner. Especially now that another series has appeared on his horizon. Joining the ranks of fellow power showrunners Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story) and Shonda Rhimes (Scandal) Fincher is making his fourth foray into television with Video Synchronicity (originally titled Living on Video). Previously, it had been reported that Fincher had filmed two episodes of the show – despite HBO not yet giving an official season one green light – but now it … Click to continue reading David Fincher’s ‘Video Synchronicity’ Series Picked Up by HBO Screen Rant » TV News

‘The Simpsons’ Renewed for Seasons 27 and 28

Woo-hoo! That’s surely what the residents of Springfield, ______ are saying right about now – or at least they would be if they weren’t fictional characters unaware they exist within a long-running TV show. FOX announced today that The Simpsons will in fact continue its seemingly never-ending march into pop-culture eternity, via a two-season renewal that carries the series through spring 2017. In FOX’s press release, Homer Simpson himself – the one character apparently aware he’s a TV star  – sums up The Simpsons’ continued existence thusly: “I’ve outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart and ‘McDreamy,’ because I have something they don’t: a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction.“ While it’s hard to imagine that anyone doubted FOX would renew The Simpsons, the fact that … Click to continue reading ‘The Simpsons’ Renewed for Seasons 27 and 28 Screen Rant » TV News

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Clips & Images Tease Dramatic Conclusion to Season 2

All in all, the second season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a vast improvement over its first. The series has become progressively darker, more cinematic, and the characters have gone from model-attractive actors on an ABC show to names and faces loved by many of the Marvel fandom. The introduction of The Inhumans (who won’t even have a film until 2019) and the inclusion of new superpowered characters into the MCU have helped to cement AoS as a integral part of the MCU. The two-part season finale is said to be massive; and judging by what’s been unveiled thus far, it looks like tensions are running high among Coulson and his team. Marvel has not only debuted some new images from the AoS season two finale (“S.O.S.”), but also released two small clips from the proceeding episode, “Scars” – teasing the conflict that … Click … Continue reading
