American Horror Story – Season 1, Episode 1 – “Pilot”

American Horror Story

American Horror Story – Season 1, Episode 1, "Pilot"

There seems to be a lot of talk all over the place, where people are revelling in the fact that the guys who created the smash US dance and song fest that is Glee could come up with something just as compelling but in a completely different genre, namely horror / fantasy. However, those people shouldn’t be that surprised as Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have form in other genres. For example, did you know they were also responsible for Nip / Tuck?

American Horror Story is about a typical American family whose lives are on the rocks. Vivien Harmon suffers from a miscarriage and becomes very withdrawn in order to protect herself from the pain. Ben Harmon, her husband finds himself having an affair with another woman for the same reason. Violet Harmon, their daughter starts to become troublesome, both at school and at home and even turns to self harming in order to get some attention.

The family decide they need to do something about their situation and decide to up sticks and move lock, stock and barrel across the country into an old Victorian era house in Los Angeles. From this point they expect that things will get better and that their troubles are behind them. However, little do the Harmon family know, that there troubles are only just beginning because the house has a history of its own.

The house has a history of murders behind its doors, but there are also problems with the neighbours. Constance and her mentally handicapped daughter Addison are simply creepy but the housekeeper Moira is even more weird, mainly because Vivien sees Moira as an old woman, but Ben sees her as a young, desirable sex kitten that he can’t get away from.

And so, the American Horror Story begins…
