Fringe – Season 4, Episode 10, "Forced Perspective" A girl sits alone in Boston doing some sketch work on a pad. All of a sudden she stops what she is doing and starts a fresh sketch on a new page. When she has completed it, she walks over to a man in a suit and gives him the sketch and walks away. The man, Robert Englehart, confesses to his friend that he doesn’t know the girl. As they walk away, a girder breaks loose from nowhere and impales him. His friend looks at the piece of paper which shows a sketch of Englehart impaled by a girder. |
| It turns out the girl is called Emily and we see her arriving home, greeted by her dad Jim, mother Diane and brother Danny. Later in the evening, Emily is in her room drawing when her dad comes in and they start talking. He looks at the drawing Emily has been doing and recognises it as a sketch of their lake house. Emily asks her dad if he is tired of having to keep moving the family around because of her and wonders why God made her the way he did. Jim says that God must have a purpose for her and that his job is to keep his family safe and together, no matter what it takes. |
| The next time we see Emily she is on the bus to school when she gets another vision. She sketches a man on the bus and looks up to find him but she sees that he has already gotten off. Emily gets off the bus and goes after him but after losing him in the crowd she looks up at the sky and says that she tried. |
| Olivia and the team are conducting a house to house in the neighbourhood where Emily Mallum lives. They happen to come across the Mallum house but her parents deny knowing the girl in the photo. As they walk away, Olivia says she saw a backpack in the hall way that is like the one described by a witness. Just then Emily comes home and Olivia starts to talk to her. Emily says that she can sense death but before they can get going with their conversation, Jim Mallum comes out of the house and says that they cannot interview his daughter. Emily reluctantly agrees to go in the house. Jim says that there are always people wanting to study their daughter, people like Massive Dynamics. Olivia says she just wants to help and leaves Jim her card. |

Once inside, Jim says to Emily she did the right thing and Emily tells him about the man on the bus. Jim says that there is nothing she can do to change someone’s fate, and reminds her that bad things happened the last time she tried.

While Olivia confronts Massive Dynamics about Emily, she receives a call from her and arranges to meet in a park. Emily tells Olivia that her dad doesn’t know he called her and shows Olivia the sketch of the man on the bus. The man is dead but he is also surrounded by other dead bodies. Olivia introduces Emily to Walter back at the lab who carries out some tests. Emily explains that she had her first vision when she was 11. Doctors carried out tests but because her visions continued, she lost all her friends and she and her family were constantly having to move home.

Astrid manages to identify the man in the sketch by looking through bus pass photos. The man’s name is Albert Duncan. Olivia takes off to Duncan’s address while Peter suggests to Walter that hypnosis might give them more information from Emily’s vision. Emily agrees and sees that the deaths she drew in the sketch seem to be because of a building collapse. She then manages to read something in Latin. Walter says that this means the event occurs in a courthouse. Emily also sees that the man has something that looks like a radio in his hand. Astrid confirms that Duncan is due in court to settle a nasty divorce and they deduce that the radio is a detonator and that Duncan is going to set off a bomb.

The FBI turns up at the court house and they figure that the bomb is in the underground car park due to all the destruction Emily saw. The team manage to track Duncan down and have also blocked the signal from his detonator. Olivia tells him his future is not written in stone and that he should think about the children at which he starts to cry and gives up. Olivia calls to tell Jim that Emily’s actions saved hundreds of lives, but Jim says that they spotted a black van and that Emily has disappeared. The FBI find out that the van was from a dry cleaning service and that Emily has not been abducted. Olivia goes with a hunch and goes back to the park where she met Emily before and find her sitting, freezing on a bench. Emily tells Olivia that it is her time and that she has known for a while. Olivia tells her that she saved hundres of lives at the courthouse. Emily shows Olivia a sketch which show Emily sat on the bench with her dad. At this point Jim arrives and sits down next to her. Shortly afterwards, Emily dies peacefully in his arms. It turns out that the extra electrical activity in her brain caused Emily to have a stroke.
