A number of shows are getting close to wrapping their 2012 / 2013 seasons and so it is quite timely that NBC has just announced that Grimm and Revolution will both be renewed for new seasons. On top of that announcement, The CW has confirmed that there will be a second season of Beauty and the Beast meaning that it will join Arrow, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural in that regard, whose renewals were reported a few weeks ago.

1. S.H.I.E.L.D If you thought Phil Coulson died in Avengers Assemble, you might have to reconsider your position as it seems like good old Agent Coulson will be back, leading a new team of agents. This time though it will be as part of a TV series rather than another movie if the production team gets its way. Starring Clark Gregg who resurrects his part as Coulson, Ian De Caestecker (The Fades) and Ming-Na Wen (Stargate: Universe & A Town Called Eureka), the chances of this pilot going to series we think are pretty much 100%. Oh, did we mention that the new series was created by Joss Whedon? Nuff said. 2. Legends Another pilot which seems to be almost a dead cert to be picked up to go to series is TNT’s Legends. Fans of Dollhouse will find the … Continue reading →

It is said that the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on 22nd November 1963 in Dallas, Texas is one of those events which has been impregnated onto the psyche of everyone who was around at the time. Everyone knows where they were and what they were doing when the news broke. So, if you were given the opportunity to travel back in time to November 1963 and alter history by preventing the assassination would you take it? Maybe the more important question is, should you take it? It is something worth thinking about as we gear up for what could well become a televisual treat if it comes off, as it has been reported by Deadline that Bad Robot, the production company owned by JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk, and the very same one behind such hit TV shows … Continue reading →

Defiance is one of those shows of a sort that should be familiar to us by now. Specifically it seems to involve outsiders who come into a community of one stripe or another and try to integrate into that world. The Science Fiction tropes being used can be widely different, such as a word without electricity in Revolution, or a world in the past in Terra Nova. But often, the concept is totally drowned out by dull family dramas. Fortunately, Defiance seems to have a chance of rising above its family friendly concept. Post-Apocalyptic The show is set in a world some decades hence from now, in which the Earth has been “terraformed” into something not quite Earth like anymore. It’s tempting to note that “terraform” means to make a place like Earth, literally, but oh well. Specifically, this occurred … Continue reading →

Comedy Central have decided not to renew the futuristic cartoon Futurama for an eighth season due to continual dropping ratings. When launched in 1999 the show saw massive viewing figures of 19 million but now it is only managing to pull in just under 2. The show’s creators Matt Groening and David X Cohen admit to not being surprised by the cancellation, with Cohen stating that he felt they were already in the bonus rounds with the last couple of seasons. “It was what I had expected two years earlier. At this point I keep a suitcase by my office door so I can be cancelled at a moment’s notice,” said Cohen when talking to EW. The feeling isn’t a new one either as the show was cancelled once before back in 2003 before being picked up by Comedy Central. … Continue reading →

From the creator of the Battlestar Galactica re-imagining and the showrunner of Star Trek, Ronald D Moore, comes a new show called Helix, for which the first teaser trailer has been released (below). The show is about a group of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who head to a secret research station in the Arctic after reports of an outbreak of a mysterious new disease, an outbreak which, if it spreads, could threaten to destroy life as we know it. Syfy have picked up the show for an initial 13 episode run and they are skipping the pilot stage altogether and going straight into production.
