Michael Bay to Direct Pilot of The Last Ship?

One of the new TV shows currently being considered for a pilot for TNT is The Last Ship, which is based on a novel by William Brinkley. It tells the story of a US Navy destroyer and its crew who suddenly find themselves in a whole new World when a pandemic takes out most of the Earth’s population while they are at sea. |

The thing is about this pitch is that it stands a fairly good chance of getting to air not least because Michael Lets Destroy Everything on the Planet Because it Will Look Spectactular Bay wants to direct the pilot. The Transformers director certainly knows how to add excitement to a movie and one thing is for sure, if he ends up involved, the special effects will be excellent.

Whether it is the sort of story that will actually make for a compelling, and longer than one season, TV show, I’m not so sure. What do you think?

It was an interesting-enough novel, though the ending was something of a bummer — that won’t be replicated in a pilot for a series, or likely a series that wants to continue beyond one season, but for a series ending it might be right up Michael Bay’s alley to do bang-up jobs that bookend whatever comes between.
