  Dr. Diego ‘Doc’ Soto Diego Soto first visited Alcatraz prison when he was five years old and has been fascinated with the place ever since. Born to parents who were both Stanford University professors, he was raised in San Francisco and soaked up all the information he could about Alcatraz. He has been described by Garcia as an Alcatraz encyclopedia. When he was eleven, Doc Soto experienced a major traumatic event but although she is aware of it, Rebecca is yet to discover what the event was as the Doc is not yet ready to discuss it.   Due to the death of her parents, Rebecca Madsen was raised by Ray Archer, a retired police detective and former guard on Alcatraz. Partly due to being raised in such an environment and with fairly heavy influence from Ray, Rebecca became a police officer, progressive to homicide detective.   Rebecca has another link to The Island though, in that her grandfather, Thomas Madsen was a resident, so to speak and was also one of the 63s, the group of prisoners who disappeared from Alcatraz.
