It’s difficult to know for sure whether or not Touch belongs on the Scifi TV Guide website at all as it is not likely to be seen necessarily as science fiction. Touch is a drama where science meets spirituality and some people would argue that there is no fiction involved. Either way, some of the storylines at least meet the definition of incredible and so we thought we better put something up here.

In a style similar to Heroes, Touch follows a group of characters that are unrelated. The first of these is Martin Bohm, played by Kiefer Sutherland who is a widower and a single father. To add to the trouble of trying to bring up a child on his own, his 10 year old son, Jake is severely autistic and mute and Martin is struggling to come to terms with the fact that he cannot connect with him. On top of all this, social worker Clea Hopkins insists on visiting Martin and Jake to carry out an evaluation of their living conditions and she discovers a man whose obsession with a son whom he can no longer control is taking over his life.

Martin has discovered however, that Jake sees the World differently and one of the things he likes to do is take apart old mobile phones. He has also discovered that Jake has a gift of staggering genius, one that allows him to see patterns in the World that no-one else can see, patterns which connect everything to everything else.

After he has discovered Jake’s gift, Martin turns to an aging professor called Boris Podolsky who has an unorthodox theory about Jake, but one that is also no less compelling for that fact. Boris theorises that spirituality and science can be joined together into a perfect harmony, and that Jake might just be the person to make it happen.
