Living in the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, Elena Gilbert has just lost both of her parents in a car accident and falls in love with Stefan Salvatore, who it turns out is a 162-year-old vampire.
Stefan’s older brother Damon, who is also a vampire, having been turned by Stefan returns to the town with a plan to bring back their past love Katherine Pierce, another vampire who, coincidently, looks exactly like Elena, inevitably resulting in Damon falling in love with Elena, leading to the creation of a complicated love triangle as he falls in love with Elena.
As various threats emerge, including from Katherine, along with the mythologies surrounding the town’s past, both brothers are forced to attempt to protect Elena
